Minister of Digital, Malaysia

Gobind Singh Deo is the Minister of Digital for Malaysia, tasked with overseeing the country’s digital transformation.

Under his leadership, the Ministry has implemented a number of important policy initiatives, including enacting the Cyber Security Act 2024; amendments to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010; a proposed Data Sharing Bill; as well as the setting up of the National Artificial Intelligence Office (NAIO). Gobind’s ministerial responsibilities include ensuring that the country has the necessary fundamentals to achieve its digital ambitions, such as robust digital infrastructure, sound cyber resilience and high-quality talent pool.

Between 2018 and 2020, Gobind served as the Minister of Communications and Multimedia. In that time, he pushed for reforms in various sectors such as making broadband more affordable and accessible; media freedom; transitioning national broadcaster Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) into the digital era; and enhancing the country’s digital connectivity through 5G.

Gobind holds a law degree from the University of Warwick, UK and is a Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn. He was admitted as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya in 1996, and was one of the country’s leading criminal, constitutional and human rights lawyers before taking up ministerial positions.

Jennifer Cheng is the Cybersecurity Strategy Leader at Proofpoint for Asia Pacific and Japan. She has over 15 years of experience consulting and educating IT professionals on new technologies, best practices, and industry trends. Prior to Proofpoint, Jennifer held business and technical roles at Cisco, Salesforce, and WatchDox. She has a B.S.E. degree in Computer Science from the University of Michigan–Ann Arbor and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

Philip Sow

Head of Systems Engineering, Southeast Asia, Korea & India at Proofpoint

Philip Sow leads the systems engineering team for Southeast Asia and Korea (SAK) at Proofpoint, where he leads a team of highly skilled pre-sales engineers to deliver creative solutions to complex challenges within the constantly evolving threat landscape. In his role, Philip ensures the protection of critical data and assets across multiple channels, including email, web, cloud, social media, and mobile platforms.

Prior to Proofpoint, Philip played a key role in driving the digital risk protection solution at Digital Shadows in APAC. He also led the pre-sales team at Splunk, successfully deploying operational and security analytics solutions in South Asia.

Philip is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and holds a Bachelor of Science in Technology Management and Computing from the University of Portsmouth.

Jerry Shi, Cybersecurity Strategist at Proofpoint for Asia Pacific, is dedicated to empowering and educating IT professionals by providing valuable insights into new technologies, industry trends, and best practices. He ensures they have a comprehensive understanding of the latest security threats and equips them with effective strategies and solutions to safeguard their digital environments. With over 10 years of experience in consulting and educating on digitalisation technologies and solutions, combined with 6 years of expertise in software R&D, Jerry has consistently helped clients across various industries in APAC achieve significant success in their digital transformation journeys.

Head of Sales Engineering – Data Security, APJ at Proofpoint

Richard Combes is a cybersecurity leader with over 20 years of experience in the field. Since 2020 he has led leads Sales Engineering for Data Protection across EMEA and APJ at Proofpoint helping customers manage data risks
Previously, he spent 15 years at Symantec in Product Management and Sales Engineering leader roles, specializing in data security.

He holds a CISSP and IAPP EU Privacy Professional and Privacy Program Manager qualifications
