Data Strategy, Ownership and Governance

Join Lucia Milică, Proofpoint Global Resident CISO, with special guest, MIT Professor Stuart Madnick, and your fellow CISOs for an interactive virtual meetup. Discover and connect with a powerful network of cybersecurity leaders from leading organizations.

CIA… Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability are words at the heart of all security programs. While they apply to all CISOs, the roles security teams play in protecting data have always been shared with information technology. Increasing use of cloud solutions, dependency on third parties, and broad disparities in the legal and regulatory landscape have resulted in data management changes, adding new roles to increase focus on these data management topics.

The roles in the data management domain vary, but while the title may be CISO/CPO/CDO/CRO, they all share the objective of simplifying data management. Harmonizing business requirements while protecting data is a balancing act. Initially, we focused on hardening a perimeter. As data moved to the cloud, our focus transitioned to data-centric. With social engineering and credential theft threats, we are forced to move to a people-centric approach. Effectively implementing people-centric security requires close collaboration with leaders responsible for data, risk, privacy, and cybersecurity.

Join your peers for a collaborative discussion, where we’ll share proven best practices, exchange new ideas, and discuss:

  • Creating a collaborative data management strategy
  • Identifying and working with data owners
  • Modernizing data governance tactics

Updates from Washington, DC: Cybersecurity Policy Overview

Join Lucia Milică, Proofpoint Global Resident CISO, Patrick Gaul, National Technology Security Coalition Executive Director, and your fellow CISOs for an interactive virtual meetup. Discover and connect with a powerful network of cybersecurity leaders from top organizations.

Cybersecurity continues to dominate the headlines and has become a primary focus for policymakers in Washington, DC. Congress and the administration are considering various legislative and regulatory proposals to protect U.S. organizations and the nation’s national security interests from cyber threats. With so many pieces of legislation and administrative rules pending, it can be difficult to navigate which ones stand a chance of adoption, and what their impact may be on CISOs and their businesses.

Despite the challenges, the last few years have illustrated the importance of understanding what impact such external requirements may have on organizations. The start of 2022 found the SEC outlining a new cyber regulation roadmap. Since then, the SEC has proposed breach disclosure and board qualification rules. Further, various proposals from the Cyberspace Solarium Commission have found their way into legislation.

Join your peers for a collaborative discussion, where we’ll exchange new ideas and discuss:

  • The status of the top U.S. cybersecurity legislative and regulatory proposals
  • Their potential impact on organizations, CISOs, and the cybersecurity industry
  • How you can make your voice heard in Washington DC through effective advocacy

The Rise of Systemic Risk

Join Lucia Milică, Proofpoint Global Resident CISO, and your fellow CISOs for an interactive virtual meetup. Discover and connect with a powerful network of cybersecurity leaders from leading organizations.

The data universe has expanded beyond traditional network controls, with the growing possibility of a single dependedency resulting in catastrophic failure. Recent experience with Log4j reitterated the reality of these threats being more than just theoretical. This session will explore the key challenges that CISOs face as cloud and hybrid environment architecture evolves in response to stakeholder requirements.

Despite the challenges, CISOs are stepping up to identify new ways to solve problems arising when these threats are recognized. This discussion will examine how the transformations in how we work and the dissolution of the perimeter have expanded and increased the complexity of the threat landscape, creating systemic risks. CISOs are becoming well versed in how one event can trigger a cascade of seemingly unrelated consequences.

Join your peers for a collaborative discussion, where we’ll share proven best practices, exchange new ideas, and discuss:

  • How are they communicating systemic risk
  • Which key metrics should you be monitoring
  • Adapting risk management and assessment
